Mercedes teased its T-Class van in 2020. It also showed off the van’s design. Mercedes unveiled the Concept, an all electric version of its new model, a year later. Mercedes promised that the new T-Class would be launched in 2022. It is keeping that promise. Mercedes released a teaser video to showcase the new van, which will debut Tuesday, April 26.
The van’s front is the only image. It shows the brand’s familiar grille and headlights, wrapped in modern materials. Mercedes styling cues. The front of the T-Class is different from that of the Concept EQT, with the all-electric Concept sporting a unique grille-and-headlight design. This design will not be seen in the rest the T-Class lineup. Mercedes will offer the T-Class a variety of powertrains including gasoline engines that require grille openings to allow fresh air to circulate.
The new T-Class will be joining the Citan, which was redesigned for the 2022 model-year . The Citan is a joint venture between Renault and Daimler, sharing many bits with the Renault Kangaroo. Mercedes still positions the Citan in a commercial vehicle, even though it is also available as a passenger van.
Mercedes has a new approach to the T-Class. It is positioning it as a premium small van for active lifestyles. Mercedes claims that the new T-Class will have a “variable interior,” meaning it can be reconfigured beyond just folding down or taking out the seats. It will be packed with safety and technology tech. The new van will make a great place to spend your time, as the Concept EQT shows.
Although powertrain details are still unknown, Mercedes should be able to offer it with a variety of gasoline and diesel engines as well as hybrids. Mercedes is yet to reveal the complete T-Class range. The Mercedes could unveil some variants and reserve the all-electric EQT for an event later.
