Maybach claims that this concept is in close production. In 2022, a Mercedes version will be available.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV Concept debuts in Munich. It is a preview for the first fully-electric vehicle to be sold from the luxury-focused marque.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS concept does not require a large grille because it is an EV. The large panel on the nose is decorated with chrome vertical pinstripes and shiny chrome pinstripes against a black background. The lower fascia is equipped with chrome louvers. For a seamless appearance, the smooth fenders wrap around the body with minimal sculpting at the sides.
Flush handles on the doors open when someone approaches. The door opens automatically for the driver. After getting inside, the driver can decide if the rear doors should also open.
Maybach EQS’s concept has a two-tone body. It is a combination Obsidian Black Metallic and Zircon Red Metal on the top, and lower. Chrome surrounds the pillars and the B-pillar features the brand’s M emblem printed in a pattern. The vehicle is mounted on massive 24-inch wheels that have a bowl-shaped design.
Philipp Schiemer from Mercedes-Benz AG’s Top End Vehicle Group stated, “The concept car is proof that state-of-the-art electrical drive technology and pioneering infotainment using the MBUX Hyperscreen combine perfectly to create a stunning interior and hallmark Maybach craftsmanship.”
The cabin concept is inspired by yachting. A rear console is finished in white piano lacquer with rose-gold accents. Deep-Sea Blue is another option. Maybach claims that the armrests are inspired by high-quality sideboards and the pair of luxurious seats make this a very elegant set. The floor is covered in faux fur.
Screens that almost cover the entire width of the body are visible to the front-facing workers. They are covered with a transparent glass that makes them appear as one unit. The 12.3-inch OLED monitor is available to the passenger. Round air vents are available in high-gloss Chrome and with galvanized trim.
Mercedes will also receive a version the EQS SUV, which will be in production by 2022. The Maybach variant will follow. The company projects a range of 373 mi (600 km).
