Mercedes-Maybach introduces the S600 Guard, the first passenger car to have a VR10 level of ballistic protection. Although it may look like the regular S600 in Maybach form, the car is actually a modified full-size sedan that is the first VR10-certified car in the world. It is the most secure passenger car in the world, and its body and windows are able to withstand the hardened steel core bullets from an assault rifle.
The Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard has special aramid, PE and polycarbonate components to ensure splinter protection. The windows are laminated but still provide excellent visual characteristics and protection against explosives. Mercedes says that the armoring will protect the passengers inside the cabin in the event of an explosion at the side. This is possible because of a new underbody armoring that covers the entire area beneath the occupant compartment. Intelligent overlapping systems are used at critical points in the vehicle’s construction, such as the material transitions or interstices, to increase protection. The vehicle has a VR10 certificate from the Ballistics Authority in Ulm. It also has an ERR 2010 rating (Explosive Resistant vehicles). The Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard is already available for purchase. Its starting price in Germany is EUR470,000 plus VAT. This vehicle joins the other armored vehicles offered Daimler such as the G500 Guardian, GLE 350 4MATIC guard, GLE 500 4MATIC guard, GLE 500 4MATIC guard, S500 Guard and S600 Guard.
