AMG and Palace Skateboards have created four vehicles to pay tribute to London, New York and Los Angeles.
Skateboarding is often associated with Mercedes-AMG Mercs. You know that nothing says “kickflips and wallrides” like a $160,000 G63. This is actually one of four AMG art cars that were recently revealed by Palace Skateboards and the automaker.
Affalterbach specialized in the A45S, the G63, the SL63 and the AMG G63. Each of these Palace Edition vehicles is a one-off creation. Although the final designs may differ, each vehicle uses a seven-layer exterior coating to create a color-shifting effect. The special badges and Palace logos are also featured on the vehicles, which were all created by AMG Performance Studio in Affalterbach.
Let’s take a look at each car and see what the fuss is all about.
Mercedes-AMG A45 Palace Edition “Tiger London”
The hot hatchback of Merc is to represent London. It has a red-blue colorshift exterior and a large Palace logo on its doors. There’s also a larger tiger head on it. Red-blue upholstery matches the paint job. Mercedes claims that this art car is a tribute the UK’s custom car scene in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
Mercedes-AMG SL63 Palace Edition “Sunset LA”, Mercedes-AMG SL63
This custom convertible is a reminder that summer never ends in sunny Southern California. The SL63, which shifts from yellow to orange like the A45, has Palace emblazoned along the sides and a small logo on the hood.
Mercedes-AMG GT63 Palace Edition “Neon Fade New York”
Neon green is not subtle, but you will only see it from a certain angle on the AMG GT63 four door. It’s otherwise black and represents bright lights and bustling streets of the city that never sleeps. This GT63 has two-tone interior seats in black and green, just like the A45.
Mercedes-AMG G63 Palace Edition “Space Horse Tokyo”, Mercedes-AMG G63
This G-Class features a white/blue exterior and images of a horse charging on both sides. Mercedes says the background of stars behind the horse enhances the message. This is a tribute to Tokyo’s sci-fi/fantasy culture. It’s not a Gundam riding on a horse or a transforming robot horse. It is just a horse.
These vehicles are not available for purchase. Mercedes says that Palace Skateboards will be selling apparel from a 23-piece related collection starting March 25.
