It appears that the company has new names for many its models.
Multiple trademark filings indicate that Mercedes-Benz may be looking at revising model names to denote its latest powertrains. These types of registrations are difficult to take seriously as a company could reserve a name but never use it. These titles are in line with recent rumors regarding the future of the automaker.

, the parent company of Mercedes, filed all trademarks in Germany for September 24, 2017. The country’s trademark and patent office published them December 8, 2017. Autoguide first discovered the registrations after the automaker filed paperwork in Canada for many of these names on January 22, 2018.
Rumours suggest that the 73 name will refer to a Mercedes-AMG’s biturbo V8 4.0-liter with plug-in hybrid parts. This would provide the vehicles with more than 800 horsepower (597 Kilowatts) as well as 738 pound-feet (1,001 Newton-meters) of torque.
The 63 title would be for an upgrade of the biturbo V8 4.0-liter producing 612 horsepower (456 kW).
These 53 models are a bit of a mystery. The CLA, GLA, and future GLB-Class ride on Mercedes’ front-wheel-drive-based platform. The existing vehicles bearing this name, e.g. The existing vehicles with this name, e.g., E53 coupe and E53 convertible use a 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-6 engine with a 48-volt electric system and small motor for a hybrid boost. This setup is unlikely to work with FWD models as they have a transverse powertrain. Mercedes may have a hybrid drivetrain in the works.
It is still unknown what the 40 and 50 models will look like. The A Class was unveiled as A 200, A 250 and A 180d. This indicates that Mercedes does not plan to use two-digit monikers for the hatchback despite the fact it has new engines.
