Remember last week’s Benz three wheeled motor vehicle? If you feel the need to have one, All Time Stars is offering a Benz Patent Motorwagen for sale on their website. Although it’s a replica, this is as close as you can get to the original. Best part? It works perfectly and has many interesting features.
The Patent-Motorwagen, which was patented in January 1886 to use an internal combustion engine, is the first vehicle to be able to run on patent. Here’s a little history: Gottlieb Daimler also patented an internal combustion engine later that year. He began by building a four-wheeled horseless carriage. The iconic Mercedes-Benz brand was born.
Mercedes produced a series patent motorwagen replicas 2001-2002 to commemorate the occasion. Classic Center recently acquired this unit for restoration and inspection.
The car is functional and has low mileage, as it was originally built to be used in museums.

It has a top speed of 16 km/h (10 miles/hr), is powered by an internal combustion engine with 1-cylinder capacity, and has leather interior. It isn’t fast but it was the fastest vehicle in 1886.
