Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss is more costly than a Bugatti CHiron

You can own this rare speedster for a substantial $2.88 million.

The price of a shiny new Bugatti CHiron starts at $2.61million, but the cost to buy this 2010 Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss will be around $250,000 more. It is one of 75 speedsters ever built and looks like it has only been driven 4,800 km (2,982 miles).

All vehicles were produced between June 2009 and December 2009. They were only sold to regular SLR owners. This car is without doubt the most impressive to sport the three-pointed star emblem. It was also the penultimate SLR-based model to be released, and was succeeded by the SLR McLaren Edition which was produced in 25 examples. The carbon-fiber-bodied speedster draws inspiration from the 300 SLR’s iconic 300 SLR. It features a supercharged V8 engine of 650 horsepower (478kilowatts), which is channeled to its rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission borrowed from SLR 722. This hardware enabled the special edition to sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just three and a quarter seconds, and then onto a top speed at 217 mph (355 kph). Mercedes-Benz was stunned by these performances and said that no other series-production car is so fast or open as this car when it launched the car at NAIAS 2009 in January 2009.

Although the SLR Stirling Moss did not come with a roof, it did have two tonneau covers that could be stored in its trunk. Mercedes claimed that the car looked like a sculpture with the covers in place. The “swing-wing doors”, and the lack of a windshield, made it even more special.

This car’s asking price of 2.80 million CHF ($about $2.88M/EUR2.59M) is insane when we consider that it was originally available for EUR750,000. However, rare cars can be seen as investments. The asking price of this car is insane when we consider that it was available for EUR750,000.
