Michigan Woman is Blindsided by $9k Tow Charge After Pileup Crash

Before you agree to any service, always ask about the cost.

Cars can be expensive. Cars are expensive. A Michigan woman discovered recently that a Tow Bill can be quite expensive after she was charged over $9,000 earlier in the month.

Fox 2 Detroit reports that Kellie Rockwell was torched after her car was involved with a multi-car pileup. The incident, which took place in whiteout conditions, involved more than 160 vehicles. Police arrived on the scene. 10G Towing and Recovery also attended. Rockwell stated to Fox 2 that Rockwell was told by her insurance company to use tow truck drivers who were working with police. Rockwell thought 10G was working with her. She was charged $375 COVID, $500 storage and $2,100 to hook the vehicle up.

Rockwell wasn’t the only driver to be charged a ridiculous price for the pileup. Timothy Vanhaverbeck was charged $4,000 for his services. He said that he felt “taken advantage” by Fox 2. Lavish T. Wilkins, the owner and operator of Lavish Towing, Detroit told Fox 2 that Vanhaverbeck was negotiating lower towing rates starting at 10G. Even if you’re not in serious harm, being involved in a car accident can be stressful. This is a simple situation that can be exploited in a complicated situation. It’s best to find out upfront how much a service costs. If the company is unable to give you an accurate price, you should look elsewhere for your business. This is a great reminder to be vigilant even in vulnerable times.
