Never has the off-roading legend looked better.
Over the years, we’ve seen many Hummer H1 creations by MilSpec Automotive. The M1-R is the latest version. It boasts a snazzy interior, burly exterior treatment and a lot of power under its hood. Although it is a one-off purchase, it is not impossible to get one. In a moment, we’ll discuss this more.
It all begins with a Hummer H1. The interior is given a complete overhaul, which the company claims is their most luxurious attempt to date. Each piece of plastic is replaced with machined parts, down to billet switches or a billet steering column. There are many new electronics, such as an electronic gear indicator, electric parking brake, dual zone climate controls and a marine-grade stereo.
Any area of the cockpit that is not machined is covered with carpet or Nappa leather. The M1-R greenhouse is not luxurious, but it does have a utilitarian appearance. It has a mile-wide central console that separates the left and right occupants. It features simple gauges on the broad, flat dash. Although it’s still a four-seater with basic gauges, everyone aboard is much more comfortable than the original H1.
The travel time for occupants is faster than an original Humvee. The standard model’s Duramax turbocharged diesel engine V8 of 6.6 liters has 500 horsepower (373 Kilowatts) while the standard model offers 1,000 pound-feet (1.356 Newton-meters). Mil-Spec offers options for more than 800 hp (596kW) and 1,200lb-ft (1.627 Nm). The transmission is an Allison 1000 T6 and the suspension has Rod Hall long-travel racing. Six-piston Wilwoods are an optional option to help channel all that power and weight when you press the brake pedal.
The exterior is a striking shade of yellow that was inspired by the original H1. Standard LED lights are front and rear, but Mil-Spec opens up the possibility of adding-ons such as tubular accessories, winches and fender flares to the vehicle. Standard are 20-inch Black Rhino wheels, which come with powerful off-road tires. Other exterior bits like door hinges and vents are available in stainless or powder-coated finishes. There are many exterior colors available if you don’t like yellow.
You can imagine that such a creation is not cheap. The M1-R shown here is priced at $412,000. Mil-Spec claims that this M1-R was created for a particular customer. It showcases virtually everything the company has to share with its M1 range. Mil-Spec also gave it the M1-R designation.
However, that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to buy a bizarre Mil-Spec Humvee. The new M1 line is being launched by the Michigan-based company. Prices for the base model start at $299,000. Although it is still quite expensive, it is comparable to custom offroaders made by Hennessey or ECD. Mil-Spec states that order banks for M1 are now open. So let your imagination run wild and get creative with your money!
