Milan Red Celebrates Austrian Engineering with a 1,307-HP Hypercar

Milan plans to only build 99 hypercars at a cost of $2.3 million.

Hypercars are a competitive market because only a few people can afford to spend a million dollars on a car. But Milan, an Austrian automaker believes it has something to offer these wealthy clients with its new Red hypercar. This low-slung coupe is powered by a quad-turbo, 6.2-liter V8. It produces 1,307 horsepower (1,400 Newton-meters), and can sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.47 seconds. It also has a top speed of 249 mph (400 km/h).

The hypercar’s name is derived from the Rotmilan, a bird of prey. The Milan Red’s designers want to keep the weight down, just like many avian predators. Because the entire structure is made of carbon fiber, the firm claims that the machine will weigh in at 2,866 pounds (1.300 kilograms). Milan claims that the suspension wishbones, which are made of carbon, is a first in a road-going vehicle.

Red’s seems to place a high priority on functionality over form. Although the vehicle looks purposeful with its large vents at the front, rear and sides, they also create a more cohesive design. Milan has not yet provided photos of the interior, but said that one of its oddest features is a gauge to monitor the driver’s heartbeat. This seems to be an interesting, but useless, gimmick.

Milan plans to build 99 Reds at a cost of approximately 2 million euros ($2.3million). The firm claims it has already reserved 18 Reds. Milan wants the hypercar’s best engineering to be represented so it is partnering with Austrian motorsport specialists like AVL or Pankl Racing Systems.
