MINI has decided to end the racing series due to a “very difficult economic environment”.
Although they consider their efforts a success, they were unable to place on the podium more than three times. Their best race came in January, when Dani Sordo finished second in the Monte Carlo Rally.
MINI claims that their John Cooper Works Countryman has met all FIA homologation requirements despite leaving the WRC. This will allow “those who are interested” to continue running the car in WRC on a customer rally basis.
Kay Segler stated that he would like to see MINI John Cooper Works WRC continue running competitively in WRC as well as other championships. He thanked Prodrive as well as WRC Team MINI Portugal, for their “good cooperation.”
