It combines retro styling and modern-day conveniences.
I am mulling over the idea of purchasing a camper. It is tempting to travel the country without a motorhome or mortgage, with only the essentials. This gorgeous 1953 Spartan Spartanette Tandem 13 is a perfect example of that. According to RM Sotheby’s listing this pristine example is the “Cadillac” of vintage camper trailers and will be auctioned in Arizona next month with no reserve.
The Spartan’s polished exterior is striking and carries over to its aluminum propane tanks. The camper has been completely restored inside and out. Period-specific details have been added to enhance the trailer’s authenticity. The Spartan has a rope-and pole awning and a set outdoor chairs and tables.
It looks like an episode from “The CW”. It’s okay to leave it to Beaver All over the place, “upchucked 1950s Americana. It’s a mix of dark browns, desaturated colors, bright blues, greens, and some polished metal that works well. You will find many period-specific details, such as the Jefferson 500 clock on green counter and wild teal Zenith radio within the common area. The best thing about the bathroom is the cat curtains.
Although the Spartanette Tandem 131.3 is more than 50 years old, it still has all of the modern amenities you would expect to find in a camper trailer. There are two queen-sized beds and a sleeper sofa that sleeps four. The camper includes a Dixie oven, range, Philco refrigerator and heater. There is also ample storage. A proper bathroom has a sink, toilet and shower.
The Spartan Spartanette Tandem 131, which was the company’s entry level offering, is now new. It cost almost $4,400. The camper will be auctioned at RM Sotheby’s Arizona auction on January 16-17. The camper will be sold without reserve. This means that the selling price is the highest bid.
