Mitsubishi has said that the Lancer Evo is dead and they will not be releasing a new model.
The Lancer Evo is really at the end of the line as Mitsubishi has announced they won’t come out with a new one.
Osamu Masuko, the company’s chairman and CEO, just revealed that the Final Edition is the final hurrah of the high-performance sedan. The automaker won’t introduce a new model because Mitsubishi is now focusing on plug-in hybrid SUVs. However, it is open to the possibility of launching a high performance vehicle with a hybrid setup that could bring back the Evo name.
A new Evolution-badged model is expected to be a mean, green second-generation ASX equipped with a plug-in hybrid system and all-wheel drive. This is a far cry from the new Lancer Evolution. However, it is better than nothing. Many will argue that such a model would dilute the Evo badge. This vehicle will likely have a lot to do with the Concept XRPHEV II that was shown earlier in Geneva.
