The pickup truck, also known in Europe as the L200 is being envisioned as a more powerful concept by Mitsu.
Mitsubishi seems to be exploring the possibility of making a rugged version the L200/Triton, which would suit those who need a more versatile workhorse. The new Triton Absolute (yes that’s what it is called) concept will make its debut at the 2019 Bangkok Motor Show. However, there are hints that a production version could be in the future.
Mitsu states that it will display the concept at different venues in the next 12 month to “gauge public attention and feedback”. If enough people like it, then the Triton Absolute can be put into production within a year. It’s not as outrageous as any other concept.
Trucks So the road-going model could be a reinterpretation of the Thailand-bound concept. What’s the special thing about this concept? It is 50 millimeters (or 1.97 inches) taller than the L200/Triton, which gives it more ground clearance to tackle rough terrain. Mitsubishi increased the track width and the suspension travel to accommodate the large Falken Wildpeak tires that wrap the black wheels.
The Triton is tougher and comes with a more robust body kit, which includes red grab handles at each door and a hard tonneau covering at the back. There are also two additional handles. The Absolute concept is a Ford Ranger Raptor competitor. It now has LED auxiliary lights on the roof and bulging fenders to enhance its aggressive look. It is distinguished from the regular model by its blacked-out grille and front and rear skid plates. The tailgate made of carbon fiber also sets it apart.
Mitsu claims that the ride quality and handling are better than ever. The powertrain is unknown, but it’s likely that the concept uses the same stock engine as the standard L200/Triton.
