Is this race fair?
Lamborghini Aventador SVJ. Ariel Atom 4. Ferrari 488 Spider. Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. These drag racers have been victims of the McLaren 720S. With the McLaren 720S beating all of them with ease, distance was not an issue. The McLaren 720S lost to a 1,000-horsepower version. The McLaren 720S is a beast of a performance car, getting off the line quickly and putting power to the ground. It should not be surprising that the McLaren 720S is yet another winner.
The McLaren 720S loves to race:
The video shows a modified Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat – although the modifications aren’t disclosed – taking on a stock McLaren 720S. According to the Dodge’s owner, he is having clutch problems and they will race from a dig instead of standing. The McLaren does not run at 100%. Launch control stopped working sometime earlier in the day. With a rolling start, however, this won’t be much of a problem.
Another Drag Race Challenger:
Although there are two races, neither car switches lanes. Although the first race is close, almost too close, it seems that McLaren won. Although the McLaren takes the win in the second race, it appears to have a slightly bigger lead than the Dodge. Although the video doesn’t provide any details on speed or time during the quarter-mile race, it seems that this was more of an informal race between friends than a vehicular battle for supremacy.
It is difficult to estimate the Challenger’s power without knowing what modifications were made to it. A Challenger Hellcat, in stock form, produces at least 707 horsepower (527 Kilowatts) as well as 650 pound-feet (881 Newton meters) of torque from its supercharged, 6.2-liter V8. McLaren produces 710 horsepower (529 kW) while the McLaren generates 568 lbft (770 Nm), from its twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8. The McLaren weighs in at about 1,000 more than the Dodge, but it produces more torque. McLaren’s propensity for supercar engineering is what gives the McLaren 720S its edge.
