Modified Fireball 900 Camaro SS runs 9.2-second quarter mile

The supercharged, nitrous-injected Camaro delivers 1,100 horsepower to its rear wheels and is street legal.

Being first is a good thing. Fireball Performance Cars isn’t talking about being first. The claim is that they have the first 2017 Camaro to run the quarter-mile in a time of nine seconds, specifically at 9.006 at speeds of 149 miles an hour. Because the standard Fireball 900 Camaro runs in the mid nine seconds, low nine second passes are what they emphasize. The car was unveiled at SEMA a few months back and boasts a staggering 990 street-legal horsepower. This is due to numerous engine upgrades, including a higher-flow, harderened, and generous supercharger. The Fireball team added nitrous to the supercharger in order to gain an additional half-second in quarter. The result? In a street-legal Camaro, 1,100 horsepower is delivered to the rear wheels.

The transmission was one thing that the company did not alter. The modified Fireball 900 runs a stock 8 speed automatic. However, the car slips at 1,500 rpm. Crew members are looking for an upgraded torque converter. On the final run of the day, the car also damaged an aluminum drive shaft. Fireball claims that the camaro should be in the eight-second range due to the driveline adjustments. The company makes the Fireball 900 with only 720 horses. Upgrades include a custom ECM tune, a 1200CFM supercharger and Fireball-specific wheels. The cars can be purchased through selected Chevrolet dealers. This is currently only one dealership near the company’s Oklahoma City headquarters. Fireball representatives told us that they are looking to expand this footprint in 2017.

The Fireball 700’s starting price is $50,000. This includes a 2-year/24,000-mile warranty. This is a good deal compared to the $61,000 Camaro ZL1; provided you are willing to give up the three year factory warranty and the chassis tweaks that allow the ZL1 to circle the Nurburgring in just 7 minutes 29 seconds. The Fireball 900 is priced at $90,000. This is not affordable, and it doesn’t have the same warranty that 700. It is street legal, turns-key Camaro, with more power than the Bugatti Veyron. This could make it a great performance bargain.
