Morgan Plus Four is the First Four-Cylinder Turbo Car from a Brand

Performance has been elevated to a “completely new level.”

Morgan unveiled the new Plus Four sports car, following a single teaser. The vehicle has only three percent of its components in common with its predecessor, so we are using the all new to describe it. Additionally, the Plus Four sports car’s name change to Plus Four is to reflect this.

The two-seater is the first to be powered by a turbocharged four cylinder engine. The familiar 2.0-liter turbofour BMW engine is used in this application. It produces 255 horsepower (190kilowatts) as well as 295 pound-feet (495 Newton-meters) torque.

The new Plus Four has the same performance as the Morgan Roadster. It can go from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in 4.8 seconds, and can reach a maximum speed of 149 MPH (240 kph).

Morgan claims it has remapped the engine mapping to ensure optimal driveability and response. There’s also a button in the center console that activates Sport Plus mode. The engine responds better to the throttle and “releases a whole new dynamic personality from the car.”

The first generation of the sports car comes with two transmissions. The 2.0-liter turbo engine from BMW can be coupled to either a six-speed manual transmission or an optional eight speed automatic gearbox. Morgan promises fuel consumption of as high as 40 MPG (7.0 L per 100 km)

Morgan has organized an alternative event to the Geneva Show, which will be promoting the Plus Four. It will be held at Morgan’s Malvern factory, UK. Morgan was able to drive the car last weekend from Geneva to its Malvern plant, following cancellation of the show. Car transporters are not permitted to drive in continental Europe on Sundays.

The order books for the new sports car have already been opened. Prices in the UK start at PS62,995, which is equivalent to approximately $80,600 at current rates.
