This is Morgan’s most technologically advanced 3-wheeler.
Morgan’s new three-wheeled model is being revealed in late January to continue a 113 year history. The new Super 3 is a completely new model, with the same personality, thrill, and adventure of its predecessors. It also has the highest configurable model in the history. The company’s Pickersleigh Road factory in Malvern will manufacture the new Super 3.
The three-wheeler’s platform is a bonded aluminum monocoque platform. This is according to the British company. It is a monocoque that has stressed exterior A-surfaces. This technology is an evolution of the 2020 Plus Four platform and the 2019 Plus Six platform and makes the vehicle lighter and more rigid. Morgan says that the Super 3’s cabin has more space for passengers and better packaging.
The Super 3 may appear to be a continuation of its predecessor visually, but it is actually based on a different philosophy. The original 3 Wheeler was designed in the style and technology of V-twin-engined threewheelers from the 1920s. Its replacement is inspired by the mid- to late 20th century. The result is a more sleek model with no V-twin engine between its front wheels.
Because the Super 3 is a vehicle with a purpose, the interior was designed from A-Z with adventure in mind. The cabin is totally dust-proof and water resistant, down to the integrated USB sockets as well as the digital round displays. The Super 3’s touch points are made from formed metal and are cold to the touch. The engine start-stop button is one of the few components that has not been replaced by its predecessor. It is a design based on the missile release button found on military aircraft.
The Super 3’s engine is a Ford-sourced, three-cylinder, naturally-aspirated gas engine. Morgan claims the engine is “powerful and efficient” and that it fits perfectly with the Super 3. The engine is linked to the Mazda MX-5’s five-speed gearbox, which is identical to the one in the 3 Wheeler. The transmission has been modified and now links to a carbon-reinforced drive belt.
The Super 3 is available now in the UK, Europe and the USA. In a few months, the first deliveries will be made to the European continent. The first Super 3s for North America will ship in 2022. Japan and Australia will follow shortly. The UK’s starting price is PS34,958 (before local taxes), which is approximately $47,070 at current exchange rates. Pricing in the USA is not yet available.
