This number could change as production models are still about a year away.
Elon Musk, Tesla expert, just launched the new model Y compact SUV. However, the electric automaker has an configurator already in place. We have plenty of time to think about how to outfit our Model Y. The first versions won’t become available until 2020. It’s still more expensive than the larger , but a fully-equipped rig will cost you $74,500.
This is a very high price, especially for a small SUV. The Performance edition, which costs $2,500 and comes with seven-passenger seating, will be available at $3,000 more. It won’t actually be available until 2021. The two-tone interior trim in black/white adds $1,000 to the cost. And, of course, you don’t want a Tesla without Autopilot. Autopilot with full self driving capability is available for the Model Y. This adds $7,000 on top of the base price.
You can get the Performance model for $55,700. However, this still gives you a 5-passenger SUV with a 280 mile range and a 0-60 speed of 3.5 seconds. A Standard Range model with rear wheel drive and 230 mile range will be available for $39,000 to price-conscious buyers. However, it will not be available until spring 2021. The Long Range model with rear wheel drive will cost you $42,700, but it offers 300 miles between charges and a time of 5.5 seconds from 0-60.
Although it’s rare for automakers not to launch vehicle configurators before production begins, Tesla isn’t exactly a common manufacturer. The Model Y is a very important Tesla vehicle, given the insatiable appetite buyers have for SUVs and crossovers. It will be fascinating to see how and when this configurator changes between now and the arrival of the first production models.
