America’s favorite truck continues to be worked on.
We have not had the opportunity to see the progress of the truck’s development since the first spy pictures of new Ford F-150 in May. These were followed by new shots and video a few months later. We have today two photos of the camouflaged F-150 prototype thanks to Devin, Motor1.com reader. Although they don’t reveal too much, we can see that the pickup is progressing according to plan.
It is evident that America’s most-sold automobile nameplate will not take a radical turn. Instead, it will continue to follow the evolutionary path of its predecessors. Although these distant shots do not provide a close-up view of the front, it appears that the fascia still has the same fake body panels as the test cars we saw in May and August. The trial vehicle rides on larger wheels (probably 22-inch), which are likely to be used for the Platinum trim level.
The major news regarding the F-150’s powertrain range is that a new HTML8 4.8-liter V8 will replace its 5.0-liter counterpart. The new engine is expected to produce 420 horsepower (313kilowatts), compared to 395 hp (295kW) for its predecessor. The hybridized and fully electric versions of this truck are also in development, but they will be available at a later time after the launch of the traditional models.
We believe that the refreshed F-150 will be available next year as a 2021 model-year truck. It will be available with the most recent generation of Ford’s infotainment systems, as well as a refreshed design and new engine designs. Previewed last week , theSYNC 4 will be available in sizes up to 15.5 inches starting in 2020 on select Ford vehicles.
