It will debut sometime in the next year.
The fourth-generation Ford Expedition was an important upgrade to its predecessor. The Blue Oval had more features and amenities inside, while also reducing its weight and increasing its power. This helped to accelerate its sales. The behemoth is due to a mid-cycle refresh. An Motor1.com reader caught one test vehicle while it was cruising along I-75 in Michigan.
With its bulbous camouflage concealing the front, rear fascias, and fenders, the test vehicle stands out. Ford’s camouflage completely covers all lighting elements, making it difficult to spot any changes. A redesign of the headlights, taillights, and bumpers is required. This will likely include subtle changes to the front, rear, and grilles. These are the standard upgrades that come with midcycle refreshes. A strange, extra-long tailpipe was also seen on the test vehicle. It extends from underneath the rear bumper.
The fourth-generation Expedition uses one engine, a turbocharged EcoBoost V6 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. Ford however offers two options. The entry-level model produces 375 horsepower (279 Kilowatts) as well as 470 pound-feet (637 Newton meters) of torque. The higher output model produces 400 hp (298kW) and 480lb-ft (637 Newton-meters) of torque. Standard equipment is a 10-speed automatic gearbox for both horsepower ratings. The hybrid powertrain that automaker created for the 2021 F-150 is expected to be available for the 2022 Expedition.
The Expedition’s interior will likely get an upgraded infotainment system. This could mean that the Expedition’s in-dash screen is replaced by a tablet-style display similar to the one Ford introduced with the Mach-E. This would be a major interior upgrade, but it is necessary as large information screens continue a proliferating in the industry. The new Ford Expedition will be available for the 2022 model-year. It will also debut alongside the updated Lincoln Navigator later in the year.
