Another automotive startup aims to create a niche hyper-machine with insane amounts of power. Naran Automotive, a UK-based company, and its new car, the Naran. We may sound a little snarky, but Naran is a different startup than most. That’s a good thing.
This car doesn’t follow the hybrid or all electric trends that we see from many young companies. Although it is located in front of the driver, the Naran has a 5.0-liter V8 gasoline engine. It can also be used as a front-mid-engine design. Naran Automotive claims the engine is Racing Dynamics’ bespoke creation and produces 1,062 horsepower (781 Kilowatts). Naran claims that the all-wheel drive system transmits power to the front and rear. With the thin pedal planted, Naran estimates the car can reach 60 mph in under three seconds and peak at over 230 mph.
Naran’s primary focus is not on power, however. The car is designed to provide a GT3-like experience for both the driver and passengers. A motorsport-inspired double wishbone suspension with adjustable all is an important part of this. Electric power steering is not available. It’s controlled by a race-spec hydraulic rack and carbon ceramic brakes. The Naran’s aero package produces no less than 3,036 lb (1,377 kg) of downforce. This should help to keep things under control and at a reasonable speed.
These are huge claims for a startup, but they do have some experience. Jowyn Wong is the lead designer. He was also responsible for the Apollo IE, and De Tomaso. EY3 Engineering will be assembling the components and Daniel Mense (who worked on the record-setting, Nio EP9) will oversee everything. The Naran is not completely built from scratch. The monocoque is a BMW 8 Series design so if you notice familiarity, it’s because.
Naran doesn’t just build a race car. He also builds luxury cars with a wide range customization. How many? The company doesn’t give much information, but it does state that each of the 49 production vehicles will be customized to customers’ tastes. Each car will have a unique name, which is why it is currently known as Naran.
Naran is trying something different. The company has a studio car, rather than the renderings that we see often from startups. Plans are already in place for a formal debut next year. Although price is not mentioned, you can be sure that the car will not be inexpensive if it meets all these metrics.
