They come in the same colors that Carroll Shelby’s original Cobra.

AC Heritage is looking to profit from the record-breaking sale of the 1962 Shelby Cobra CSX 2000 (pictured below) at $13.75million. According to Autocar, the company plans to produce a limited number of AC Cobras built in 1962’s exact specifications. These replicas are priced at 500,000 pounds (or $666633) each. It is almost like buying a bargain when compared to the real deal. Production will start later in the year and deliveries will begin mid-2017. The Cobra Mk1 260 Legacy Edition is being made by AC Heritage’s workshop using the original tooling. According to Autocar, they will only be available in left-hand drive and in blue or yellow to honor Shelby’s original roadster. These Cobra’s will be mechanically identical to the original. They will have a transverse leaf front suspension and a live rear axle. Ford’s 260-cubic inch (4.25-liter), V8 was sourced for new power.

CSX2000 was the original Cobra and fulfilled many roles in Carroll Shelby’s life. He used the vehicle to conduct research and development. His crew also painted the car in different colors to trick journalists into believing there were more than one. The car was owned by Shelby until his death. The Carroll Hall Shelby Trust sold the model to RM Sotheby’s at Monterey Car Week. The sports car was the most expensive American vehicle ever sold at an auction after it made its way around the block. Collector vehicle markets are currently embracing limited-edition continuations and classic sports cars. Although they cost less than original examples, they are not cheap. Jaguar really started the ball rolling with its lightweight and later $1.5 million XKSS models . Lister also reintroduced the Knobbly to those who are willing to spend a million pounds ($1.3million).
