You know the drill.
The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class will be available soon. According to a report, an official debut will be made on February 22. There have been many camouflaged prototypes seen on the streets. But, a recent report said that one of those prototypes had a journalist riding along in the passenger seat. This was for an official debut scheduled for February 22. Christian Fruh (Mercedes Development Chief) was apparently behind the wheel, chatting up quite a storm.
Autocar was offered the opportunity, which resulted in some C-Class details being discovered. The updated C-Class is 2.5 inches longer overall and has a wheelbase that’s just under an inch. This results in more interior space. Fruh claims an additional inch of legroom in the rear and half-inch more headroom. Although the numbers may seem small, they can make a huge difference in comfort.
Inside, expect S Class influence everywhere. This is not only in the embedded infotainment screen. The digital instrument cluster adds to the cockpit’s elegance, while the buttons are sparse, just like in the S-Class. The big screen will display all the tech functions, making it a clean interior. However, some may be disappointed by the inability to access common functions.
The C-Class is based on the MLA bones from the S-Class, but you will find more steel construction than aluminum. Four-cylinder engines will be the only option for power. The new Merc’s front end is not long enough for an inline six so mild-hybrid four pots with turbochargers will be the order of business. The plug-in hybrid models will be equipped with larger batteries, which should increase electric-only range by 62 miles. The mix also includes an all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Although there are many questions still to be answered about the C-Class next year, those answers should only take a few weeks.
