It could be equipped with a turbo-2.7-liter four-cylinder motor.
In 2015, the second-generation Chevrolet Colorado was introduced in the US. Two years later, the ZR2 version of the Chevrolet Colorado went on sale. It’s time for a refresh. The next-generation Colorado was first seen late last year. We also spotted the ZR2 variant. Chevrolet will reveal the tougher truck on July 28th, and it’s the hotter ZR2.
A teaser video showing the truck was released by the company, which gives a glimpse at the new model. The truck will get a new front fascia with narrow headlights that sit above the deep lower intakes at the bottom of the bumper. The video shows a Safari Bar on the truck. However, the fine print warns that it could block the front view camera.
The Colorado’s rear gets new taillights and bed-side badges. Bold CHEVROLET branding is also visible on the tailgate. A truck with an off-road sports bar was also available. The truck will get a new exterior and interior, which brings in the latest technology from the brand.
The new pickup will be riding on an evolution from the GMT31XX platform by General Motors, now called the GMT31XX-2. The current Colorado ZR2 is available with either a 3.6-liter V6 gasoline engine or a 2.8-liter four cylinder diesel engine. The V6 produces 308 horsepower (372 Newton-meters) and 275 pounds-feet (372 Nm) respectively, while the diesel generates 181 hp (133kW) and 369lb-ft (599 Nm) of torque.
Rumours claim that Chevrolet will put a smaller turbocharged four-cylinder engine of 2.7-liter capacity into the ZR2, which generates 310 horsepower (231 Kilowatts) as well as 430 pound-feet (569 Newton meters) in the current-generation Silverado. We have not heard of a diesel version, but Chevy could modify the ZR2’s powertrain.
Chevrolet will unveil it soon, so we don’t have long to wait. The new 2023 Colorado R2 will be revealed on July 28th. Mark your calendars. The new pickup will compete against a new Nissan Frontier, and a new Ford Ranger. A mid-cycle overhaul was done to the Toyota Tacoma for 2020, but a new model might still be in the works.
