New base model engine gives 2017 Audi A3 an extra boost

A new 2.0-liter engine makes the Audi A3 more powerful and efficient than ever.

The 1.8-liter turbocharged engine that was previously on the Audi A3 has been replaced by a 2.0-liter TFSI, which is more powerful and more efficient. For 2017, the new engine will produce 16 horsepower (11 kilowatts), and 21 pound-feet (22.8 newton-meter) more torque than the previous version.

The 2.0-liter TFSI, coupled to the new seven-speed S Tronic transmission produces 186 horsepower (138kilowatts) as well as 221 pound-feet (299newton-meterss) of torque. This allows the front-wheel-drive sedan reach 60 mph (96 kmh), in just 6.6 seconds. The new power comes with new efficiency. A return of 29 mpg together is an increase of 2 mpg over the previous model.

The Audi A3 range will receive a few minor modifications to its exterior, including new headlight designs and updated cues for the fascia. Audi claims that the most notable refreshment will be the wider “Singleframe” grille, which gives it an aggressive look.
