This BMW could be the fastest ever without an engine.
Although the next Winter Olympic Games will not be held in Beijing, China, 2022, BMW has already begun to prepare for the German Bobsleigh, Luge, and Skeleton Federation’s help by building the two-man bobsled. The automaker has already built the first prototype and will begin testing it on ice before the end.
It’s not surprising that BMW is still at the very beginning stages of developing the bobsled. This comes despite the fact that it has been several years since the 2022 Olympics begin. Because they can test out different ideas and find the best ones, the prototype is called an “innovation driver”. The prototype is also being used by Bobsled drivers to provide input about what they want from the vehicle in order to make the most out of BMW’s design.
Thomas Hahn, a BMW technology transfer employee, stated that aerodynamics, chassis design, and carbon fabrication are all areas where BMW is at the top.
The German bobsled team will be racing in white, but the sled will still race in the traditional yellow-black color scheme. The layout will look like camouflage worn by test mules, and it will make for a spectacular sight on the ice.
BMW has worked with the German bobsled team to improve their racing gear, including helmets and overalls. The full bobsled was designed by BMW of North America for the U.S. team at Sochi’s 2014 Winter Olympics. It was good enough that the Americans won a silver medal at the Olympics.
