It will be ready to compete with the new Mercedes GLE Coupe.
The coupe-SUV is here to stay, whether you love it or not. BMW has been a proponent of this niche since the introduction of the X6 (codenamed “E71”) around 11 years ago. The F16 model was introduced in late 2014. Now, the Bavarians are finishing the third installment. The revamped X6, also known internally as the G06 model, is expected to be released later in the year.
Officially Revealed
Russian website Kolesa is trying to predict the future of the third-generation X6. They have done a speculative render, using the latest X5 as a foundation. The X6 is an X5 with a coupe roofline and a sportier rear end to match its reshaped ceiling. Numerous camouflaged prototypes were spotted, and these speculative renders likely do a great job of identifying what was underneath the disguise.
The polarizing shape for the BMW X6 should make it a bit more easy on the eyes. Test vehicles showed a sportier, less bulky derriere than the previous SUVs. We wouldn’t say it will be beautiful, but we don’t think so. This coupeSUV hybrid still seems a little unnatural to us.
The X6 will be up against the Mercedes GLE Coupe and the Porsche Cayenne Coupe, but it will also inherit almost everything from the regular X5. Because the spy camera has captured it on multiple occasions, you can be sure that there will be a full-fat M version. BMW has a hotter X6 M Competition that will have more than 600 horsepower.
The M versions will be available in 2020, but we’ll have to wait as the regular X6 is still not out. The SUV will be available in the U.S. with xDrive40i or xDrive50i versions. Europeans will get the torque-packed X5 M50d and a smaller xDrive30d. As with the X5, the conventionally-powered models will likely include an electrified xDrive45e hybrid model.
