New Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt Electric Crossover Coming in 2020

Super Cruise will have the Bolt crossover.

General Motors makes major announcements today regarding its future EVs. In late 2020, the brand will introduce a new Chevrolet Bolt. A BoltEUV electric crossover is also in development, as shown above.

Bolt EUV will be unique because it will be the first vehicle to have the Super Cruise advanced adaptive speed control system. The tech will be expanded to 10 vehicles by 2021, and 22 by 2023.

Motor1.com was there to see the Bolt and Bolt EUV at GM’s big EV show. Unfortunately, photos were not allowed by the automaker. People who had seen it reported that both models have a new front, which bears some resemblance with the Ford Mustang Mach–E. Both models share a common cabin, which includes a push button gearshift and new seats. The Bolt EUV has a 3 inch longer wheelbase and is 5 inches longer overall.

However, the Bolt models will not be able to use GM’s new Ultium battery technology. But the rest of future EVs will. They will have a range of capacities, from 50 kilowatt hours to 200 kWh and can be charged with Level 2 or DC fast charging. The units will have a range of 400 miles (644 km). Standard version will come with a 400-volt battery and up to 200 kW fast charging capability. However, the truck platform version will have 800 volts and support 350kW charging.

Engineers will be able stack the pouch-shaped cells vertically or horizontally in the battery pack. Engineers will be able to customize the layout for each product with this modular design.
