What are Ford’s plans?
Ford has discontinued the Fusion in 2020. However, there were many rumors about its return. Although it hasn’t happened yet, Ford may be closer to reviving the nameplate. New spy photos show a Ford SUV that looks like the Fusion successor.
Although the SUV appears to be a typical crossover, we’d need to remove the wrap to see what Ford has done with it. Photos show the model with stand-in taillight units and flush door handles. Ford may have added some cladding on the hatch to alter its shape and keep us guessing. Although the test vehicle is similar in size and shape as the Equator Sport’s, Ford appears to have given the new model a unique design. Ford may call the new model Fusion Active when it arrives, according to rumors. This is speculation and the name Fusion Active has been used before. Ford Edge is out of date and will be replaced soon. This could mean that Ford might be prepping the model. However, that would mean that Ford would drop the Edge name in favour of the Fusion.
Ford’s global lineup is somewhat disorganized and it’s not clear how Ford will continue with its product line in the US. Jim Farley, Ford CEO, promised more affordable cars when he took over the Dearborn-based automaker. Although crossovers are more expensive, a new Fusion could be able to help the company reach that goal. We will keep an eye on any spy photos or speculation regarding this mysterious model.
