You can expect a surprise announcement later in the year.
A leaked photo from earlier this month confirmed the Hyundai Santa Cruz pickup truck’s final appearance when it arrives. Although the exposed shell was presented in profile to camera, it showed the truck’s creased body. However, the absence of bumpers or mechanicals beneath leaves some room for imagination. Artists have given us the best view of the truck since the leak. Our Kolesa.ru colleagues have the latest rendering, which shows a strikingly stylish pickup.
Both the V-shaped sideways crease that cuts through the bedside, and into the taillights, is visible. The crease in both the lower doors and the crease in its center are also present. The rendering shows the chrome trim wrapping around the sideglass and the upward kick from the rear window. We’ve seen the chrome trim that wraps around the side glass and the oily parts on test cars we’ve seen. This is what the leaked photo didn’t show.
These spy shots give a good, but hidden, view of the front fascia. Split-lighting will be used on the Santa Cruz. This design places the daytime running lights at top of the hood, and the headlights lower in the bumper. The corporate grille from Hyundai will likely span between the DRLs. It has been difficult to see the rear. Hyundai It has done an amazing job hiding from our photographers. It will have a very short bed, so we can’t conceal it under cladding. We haven’t seen the taillights and the photo that was leaked shows how the C-pillar might appear.
It’s still unknown what powertrains it will use, but it’ll probably borrow from Hyundai’s stock: a 2.5-liter four cylinder or a 3.0-liter V8. Maybe even a diesel. We expect Hyundai will remove the cover from its pickup sometime this year. It is expected to go into production in early 2021. It might be on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show. However, we would consider large gathering events “tentative” right now.
