It is based on the Compass, but will be called something else.
Although this is only the second time that we have seen this strange crossover from Jeep, these spy photos are important. We first saw the vehicle covered in camouflage. Now we can see the seven-bar grille of Jeep behind lighter covers. The compact CUV conceals a third row by revealing its stretched backside. It’s not a Grand Compass or a Compass, but it is a compact CUV.
We don’t know much about the new seven-seater. However, we do know that it is a stretched Compass despite its name. It will be based on the existing Compass and share design cues with the two-row model. We can see the new in a variety of shades. It won’t be identical to any other model.
Grand Cherokee Looking through the front camouflage, especially the corner LED lamps on the front fascia. However, the wheel arches are a chunky Compass shape. If we look closely at the back, you can see the D-pillar glass, which is also a Compass trademark.
We hear that the seven-seater could be powered by a turbocharged 2.0 liter diesel engine producing approximately 200 horsepower (149 megawatts). All four wheels are driven through a nine speed automatic transmission. The nine-speed automatic transmission could also be used for front-wheel-drive models. This would allow them to have a turbocharged 1.3 liter gasoline engine producing 180 horsepower (134 kW). The current Compass has 180 horsepower and a nine speed transmission, but it still uses a 2.4-liter motor.
We are still not sure what the compact three-row will be named. It is also unclear where the compact three-row people mover from Not-a-Compass will be sold. It’s possible that this smaller offering might be moved to other markets, given the Jeep Grand Cherokee L as well as the Grand Wagoneer which are both slated for US buyers. We should learn more about the vehicle this year as we expect to have a complete reveal by 2021.
