New Mercedes 4-Cylinder Diesel Engine

New Mercedes 4-Cylinder Diesel Engine
Mercedes-Benz’s new four-cylinder diesel engine can be summarized as follows: more power, greater economy and greater cleanliness.

Mercedes’ goal is to produce more power, economy, and cleanliness using fewer cylinders. The German marque is taking another step forward today with the new 2.1-liter CDI diesel engine. It produces 204 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque, while using just 5.4 liters for 100 km.

Mercedes celebrates Rudolf Diesel’s 150th birthday. What better way to pay tribute to the man who invented diesel engines in 1893, six year after Daimler and Benz created the automobile. Rudolph Diesel passed away in 1913. The first diesel engine, the legendary 260 D, made its debut in the world in 1936.

The new diesel will be called the 200 CDI/ 220 CDI or 250 CDI. It has 2143 cubic centimeters displacement and can produce 150 kW/ 204 HP of power and 500 Nm torque at its maximum level. This engine has 20% more power and 25% less torque than its predecessor. The engine’s CO2 emissions have been cut by as much as 13%, which means that it is Euro5 emission standard approved.

The 2008 C-Class will feature the new engine. It can be placed transversely or longitudinally. This engine is expected to drive all-wheel-drive vehicles and BlueTec technology can be added. The engine can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.7 seconds when fully deployed by its two turbochargers. Two-stage turbocharging will eliminate the notorious turbolag on single turbocharged engines.

This is a brief overview of the new engine.
