Mini tries hide the unique design of the EV.
The new Mini three door tried to deceive us when it first appeared a year ago with its camouflage. Although the covers made it seem that the Mini would retain its round taillights last year, a leaked photo late last year revealed the all electric version with a unique design. The hatch is still covered in the disingenuous camouflage, but new spy photos show that the yellow-colored camouflage makes its outline and taillights easily visible.
The hatch opening exposes the taillight covers, matching the leaked image. It was harder to see the hatch’s outline in than in earlier spy photos. New photos show the car covered in camouflage, concealing a familiar design. The Mini’s front still has round headlights, but it is otherwise quite simple.
Although we haven’t been able to see the interior of the new Mini in its entirety, teaser photos couldn’t conceal it from curious eyes. In many of the pictures above, a large screen was visible on the dash. The new shots also show a cluster of digital instruments. The dash-mounted round screen is now covered. Mini plans to make interior changes as well as tweaking the exterior. Mini last year announced that the next generation of its models would go upmarket with their interiors. This likely means better materials, but not leather, and the most recent technologies.
Mini has not provided any information about the car’s engine. Mini’s new Mini EV is smaller than its gas-powered sibling and doesn’t have much room for a large battery pack. The technology will be improved to give the new model a greater range. Currently, it only offers 114 miles (183 km).
Along with the diesel and gas models, the Mini all-electric will be available in a five-door version. A convertible version and a John Cooper Works hotter version will be available. Mini has not yet announced the debut date for the next-generation electric car, but it is expected to be on the market by 2023. Mini has ambitious plans to become an all-electric brand by 2030.
