This is our favorite view of the C8’s front fascia, and sculptured taillights.
Today has been a busy day for C8 Corvette news. We reported earlier on an article by Hagerty that discussed some of the problems with the mid-engined Corvette, including its complex electrical system and aluminum frame which can’t seem withstand high horsepower. We now have new spy photos that show the rear and front of the supercar.
Although the test car was still wrapped heavily, the areas around the corners intakes of the front fascia were surprisingly open. Some of the details below can be illuminated with a good telephoto lens or some sunlight. This intake is very similar to the. We’ve seen renderings in the past This includes the horizontal trim that bisects and could be used as an LED light on other Corvette models. We are also allowed to take a closer look at the multi-matrix LED headslights. We believe they are production-spec.
We turn our attention to the rear, where the sun once more reveals details about the C8’s taillights. It looks very similar to the current Corvette. There are two vertical bars that are aggressively sculpted and connected by one horizontal bar. The spoiler for the “batwing” is also visible, although it looks like this one might be a little more subtle. There are many wings on different prototypes, so Chevrolet may still be trying to find the best design.
Others components may still be in flux. According to the Hagerty report, there was a battle between Chevrolet engineers as well as designers over C8 bits. Both sides were apparently trying to find a compromise between function and form. This is reportedly why delays have been reported for the highly-anticipated Corvette mid-engined Corvette. It was initially expected that it would debut in Detroit. Then, the New York Auto Show was scheduled. According to multiple sources, the C8’s problems in development are almost over. A standalone reveal is possible in the spring or early summer, with production starting in December. All of this information cannot be confirmed at the moment.
