This budget sedan seems to be influenced by Octavia design elements.
Skoda’s year has been a success in terms of model launches. The Czech brand has launched the new Superb and electric Citigo. Not to mention the next-gen Octavia, and the small crossover Kamiq. Two teasers from the Russian division of Skoda have been released about the new Rapid.
Wait, did the Rapid cease to exist when the Scala was introduced? The five-door VW Golf-rivaling hatchback has effectively replaced family-friendly car in most markets. However, it continues to be popular in Russia, India and China. It’s even getting a new generation. This is because the Scala is an upscale product, so it is more expensive. The Rapid is affordable and offers no-frills driving.
Although we haven’t yet seen the new Rapid in metal, we are willing to wager it won’t be nearly as sharply rendered as the sketches. Although the teasers will likely have a correspondent in person, the 2020 Rapid will be a family-friendly car. The teaser images show unusually large wheels and doors that lack handles. However, the real thing will be a lot more elegant.
Skoda won’t give any more details on the new Rapid. However, it mentions that it will keep its five-door liftback body design. We’ll be watching to see if the Rapid Spaceback is still around. However, we wouldn’t expect too much. It is still unknown what the interior will look like, but Skoda knows that it will have a simple dashboard design and not include the expensive features of the Octavia.
Skoda’s inclusion of both the Rapid- and Scala models in its portfolio is a sign of how far the brand has advanced in recent years. It now caters to various regions with multiple models. The Kodiaq GT, and the Kamiq GT are two other examples. Both of these models are exclusive to China.
