New Volkswagen Aero B Spy Shots Capture EV Ahead Of 2023 Arrival

China will be the first country to start sales.

Volkswagen will add a new model to its lineup of EVs next spring, which should be alongside the Passat. The Aero B is a tentative name. A new set of spy photos shows that VW is not closer to revealing the new model. It continues to wear a layer of camouflage which masks details about the EV’s tires.

The Aero B will be riding on an MEB platform when it arrives. Although details are sparse, it will likely be rear-wheel drive in its base configuration. It will likely include an all-wheel drive variant with a faster GTX performance version at the top. The model is said to be capable of reaching 60 miles per hour (96 km per hour) in just 5.6 seconds. The RWD version could take 8.5 seconds to achieve the same speed.

It is unknown how far the vehicle will travel on the WLTP cycle. However, it should be able to cover around 400 miles. Volkswagen was supposed to unveil a concept that had a range 435 miles. However, it failed to make the news due to rising coronavirus infections in China. We expect a lower official range if the EV is introduced in the US. According to rumors, VW will install a 200-kilowatt fast charger that is larger and more efficient than the battery in its EV.

New spy photos reveal the vehicle covered in a camouflage wrap made of white vinyl that hides the styling details. The fake grille extends above the front and blends with the stickers concealing the headlights. Similar is the case at the rear, where even more stickers hide the taillights.

The interior should be in line with the rest the VW ID lineup, which has a simple layout and screens as well as lots of technology. The interior should include safety features and other amenities.

Volkswagen will start Aero B production next year. However, it is not clear when. As more automakers start selling battery-electric cars, the new VW will be competing against the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq6. China will begin sales in the second half of next year.
