New Volvo C30 Conceptualized For 2020

Anyone want a 400-hp hybrid hot hatch from Sweden?

From 2006 to 2013, the C30 was Volvo’s entry-level vehicle. It was then discontinued and replaced by the V40 hatchback, and later the XC40 crossover. The premium hatch, which was based on the same platform as the second-generation Ford Focus, and the first-gen Kuga in Europe, never saw a lot of sales, due to its polarizing design.
In a video on Youtube, designer poses the question: What if Volvo puts the C30 back into production in 2020? In the past decade, the Swedish brand’s design language has evolved dramatically. It went from being rounder in the mid-2000 Volvos to more structured and prominent appearances of the new-gen models from Gothenburg. This new design evolution can it be adapted to the C30? Let’s see.
TheSketchMonkey maintains the car’s overall dimensions and weight but makes one major modification – he takes out the all-glass rear hatch to make way for a more traditional boot lid, inspired by the XC40. These new vertical taillights fit perfectly with the hatchback. Although we don’t intend to judge, and it doesn’t look bad, we feel that removing the large glass area at the rear takes away from the car’s identity.

We agree with the designer that a new C30 could be equipped with a hybrid powertrain to drive a 400-horsepower AWD layout. This could make it an incredible car. We believe that the automaker does not intend to lower the XC40, so the resurrected C30 is likely to remain a fiction.
