The sixth-generation sedan looks to take the smoothness up a notch.
We are now slowly turning our attention to New York after the Geneva Motor Show is over. Nissan will unveil the new Altima that they have been testing on public roads since August 2017, when we shared our initial batch of spy photos. The most recent set photos, which give a better idea of what you can expect from the real thing, are attached at the end.
The new midsize family sedan will undergo major design changes. It will also borrow styling cues form its big brother, the Maxima. The 2019 Nissan Altima was unveiled in January 2018, but Nissan had already shown the concept.
Concept Vmotion 2.0 (pictured below) Its sharp body is a plus, but you shouldn’t expect a sleek and futuristic design like the showcar.
The Altima has a more refined body, with more lines and creases. It is expected to be a major departure from its predecessor in terms of design. The front fascia will feature a larger V-motion grille and be flanked with slim LED headlights (the prototype shown below used the less expensive halogen).
The cabin will see major changes beyond the new design. A standalone touchscreen display will be positioned high up on the console. To make space for the infotainment, the air vents at the middle will be moved down. Overall, it seems like the Altima’s interior will look more elegant for its next version.
Although technical details are not available at this time, Nissan is certain to sell its redesigned midsize sedan with an all-wheel drive system. Expect a slightly longer wheelbase, which should result in more space for passengers inside the cabin. Although engine details are still a mystery, we don’t think it will surprise us if the Altima is sold with both four- and six-cylinder engines connected to a CVT.
When the wraps are removed from the 2019 Nissan Altima at New York Auto Show, March 28, we will know the truth.
