It will be available in dealerships by the end of this year.
The 2020 Ford Escape makes its debut at the New York Auto Show. It is a far cry form its predecessors, but it does so in the most elegant way. A global audience should be attracted to the Euro Focus-and Fiesta-inspired design cues and newfound tech.
The 2020 Ford Escape, which uses the same underpinnings of the European Focus is more than 200 pounds lighter than its predecessor, but it’s also longer, wider and lower than any previous iteration. It looks more like an SUV than a hatchback, according to our estimates.
The Escape’s new size means that it has more headroom, shoulder and hip space. The non-hybrid model has 37.5 cubic feet (1.062 liters), of cargo space in the rear row. However, the hybrid loses space for storage. There is plenty of tech available. Each Escape, except the base S model, comes with a standard 8-inch screen and optional 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
At launch, buyers can choose from several engines. First, a turbocharged 1.5 liter three-cylinder producing 180 horsepower (134 Kilowatts) as well as 177 pound-feet (248 Newton-meters), of torque. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder produces 250 hp (373 kW) and 373 Nm of torque.
The 2020 Escape is a 2.5-liter four cylinder hybrid that produces 198 horsepower (148 kW) and offers eco-conscious buyers. Ford promises a plug in hybrid with a maximum power output of 209 horsepower (156 kW), and a range of 30 miles (48 km) on electric.
The hybrid and turbocharged 2020 Ford Escapes will go on sale in the U.S. next year. The plug-in hybrid model will not be available until 2020 for those who want it.
