The new M5 will come as a plug-in hybrid.
The next generation of BMW M5 has been under development. We have “Hybrid Test Vehicle Decals” which give us some insight into the powertrain of this fast sedan. The new model won’t debut before the 2024 model-year. This means there is plenty of time for the camouflage to be applied.
Comparable to spy shots of next-generation standard BMW 5 Series This M5’s front fascia is much more aggressive. Even with mesh covering the openings, they are larger than the regular model. The charging port can be seen on the driver’s side front fender in other spy shots. There are dual exhaust pipes that exit from each side of the back.
The M5 is equipped with black five-spoke wheels. They are backed by large-diameter, drill brake discs. It appears that the ride height is lower than that of the 5 Series.
The next M5’s powertrain is unknown. Autocar rumors that the next M5 will use a BMW S63 twin-turbo V8 and electrical assistance. This would give it a total output power of 750 horsepower (559kilowatts). This setup is likely to be similar to the XM Concept crossover.
These photos aren’t close enough to show us the interior of the new M5. While spy shots of the previous model offer an overview, this car is still far from being ready for production. Another display is located on the dashboard next to the driver’s display.
Rumours have it that BMW will offer a wagon-version of its fully electric i5. There are no indications that BMW intends to make an M5 version of the long-roof model, as it did with the upcoming HTML3 Touring.
