It could be launched next year as a model in 2023.
Since the 2015 arrival of the current-generation Chevrolet Colorado, the auto industry has seen a significant shift. There are more trucks than ever before, and there are even fully electric trucks on the roads. Chevy has announced that the pickup will be getting a major redesign. We were able to get our first glimpse of the truck in Colorado thanks to a new set of spy photos. Because the truck is covered in thick vinyl wrap, the photos don’t show much of the truck’s details. Although the truck is about the same size as the current model, the vinyl wrap hides the rear and front fascias. Camo cannot hide the large rear fender flares, which deform the camouflage around truck bed. Although we don’t know which powertrains will be offered by the next-generation Colorado, we do know that the truck will use an evolution of the existing truck’s GMT31XX platform. This is creatively called the GTM31XX-2. This means that the current powertrain lineup could be retained, but General Motors has ambitious plans for electrifying its lineup over the next few years. It seems likely that some form of electrification will eventually become a reality.
Although we doubt that an electrified Colorado will arrive at the truck’s launch, anything is possible. Chevy has not yet announced when the pickup will be launched, but we anticipate it to debut next year as a model in 2023. It may go on sale by the end of 2022. The Colorado will face competition from the Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, and new entrants such as the Hyundai Santa Cruz or Ford Maverick. This could make it difficult for customers to choose larger pickups.
