To see the evidence of a droptop, take a closer look at the camo on its roof.
We have our first look at the future Mustang Convertible just a few days after we saw a new batch of spy photos of the next-gen Ford Mustang coupe. It looks very similar to the previous development vehicles, but the main differences can be seen by looking at the camouflaged roof.
While other examples had a polka dot wrap on the front of the roof and A-pillars on the roof, this one has black fabric all over. The convertible attachment point to the windshield is marked by a visible transition in material. Another indication that the droptop is being seen in these images is the absence of any heavy framing around the B-pillar.
The wheels of this development vehicle are different from the ones that were used in the past. This design has an angular appearance with many spaced Y-shaped spokes. The spy also shows a comparison of the same appearance on the 19-inch wheels in the High Performance Package for Mustang.
This Mustang, like the one in the spy shots above, has a pair brake calipers at the rear wheels. This setup could be part of a performance package.
An earlier spy video gives you a chance to hear the Mustang (below). This clip gives the impression that a V8 is underneath. Rumours have it that Ford will introduce a hybrid assisted V8 with an electric motor to turn the front wheels. This model would be the first Mustang all-wheel drive if it is ever produced. The EcoBoost four-cylinder will likely remain the entry-level engine.
According to the current information, the next-gen Mustang will be available for the model year 2024. An unveiling is expected in 2023.
