Next-Gen Ford Transit Customized with Production Body

This model is completely new and not a remake of an existing model.

We saw a mule from the next-generation Ford Transit Custom, loaded onto a trailer in January. Our spy photographers captured the vehicle with its production body, lights and mule once again to show that it is in development. Although it is still camouflaged, there are many things to see. This prototype was tested in Southern Europe. It may seem familiar, but it is the next-generation. Transit Custom This is a model that’s not sold in the United States. The vehicle’s six lug nuts hint at its new underpinnings. It appears slightly longer than the previous model, especially when you look closer at the distance between front and rear axles.

Even though camouflage is used, many things are still visible to the naked eye. For example, the front fascia has a more pointed design than its predecessor. It features sleeker headlights with a more sculptured bumper and more pointed headlights. Side mirrors are more angular than the oval-shaped mirrors on the Transit Custom.

The van will feature fully electric and plug in hybrid versions. Although the PHEV may share its powertrain with current Transit Custom PHEV it is possible that Ford will upgrade to an electrified system. We wouldn’t be surprised to see VW’s PHEV setup under the bus’s hood, given its close ties with Volkswagen. The new Transit Custom, which will serve as the foundation for the next-generation Volkswagen Transporter, is an example of the cooperation between these two automakers. The cargo version of Wolfsburg’s model will be essentially a rebadged, slightly modified version of the Transit Custom.
