Next-Gen Honda Civic Type R: Here's what it could look like

Honda’s future hot hatch will have a sharper design and more power.

Hot hatch sales are currently at a low point, especially as more manufacturers abandon traditional five-door models in favor of crossovers. The Civic TypeR is being reworked by Honda to make it even more efficient. CTR Limited Edition is the most recent evolution. It holds the title of being front-wheel-drive’s fastest production car around Suzuka Circuit. It is possible that the next generation version will be even more impressive.

The rendering uses recent spy photos to illustrate how the next-gen Civic Type R might appear. At the front, the nose is more squared off and has a sharper appearance. The current pointy headlights are now more rectangular in shape. The back still has a large wing, but the uprights integrate better into the rear deck.

Under the hood could see some major changes. Rumours suggest that the Civic Type R may have a hybrid powertrain that includes an electric motor to power each rear wheel. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder would still spin its front axle. This setup would generate around 400 horsepower (298kilowatts) in total, compared to 306hp (228kW) for the current model. The lightweight Civic Type R Limited Edition will be available in the USA for the 2021 model-year. Honda is unlikely to reveal the new model for the 2022MY. The factory in Swindon is closing. This means that production of the hot hatch must move to a new location. Honda currently states that Civics will be made in North America.
