The smaller Wagoneer could be available in 2024 or 2025.
Automakers excel at finding ways to make customers pay more. Extravagant top-level trims, special editions and other extras can increase a car’s cost and help to boost corporate profits. Just ask Porsche. With the next-generation Cherokee, Jeep may be taking that step.
A new MoparInsiders report states that Jeep is planning to launch a small Wagoneer model, based on the next-generation Cherokee. According to the publication’s sources, Jeep will build the new Wagoneer using the STLA Large platform. This platform will be used to support a range of Stellantis vehicles and is designed to accept battery-electric powertrains. According to some reports, the smaller Wagoneer will join the Jeep lineup in 2024 and 2025.
The Jeep Cherokee’s sales have been more positive than expected, but a new-generation model is on the horizon. Christian Meunier (Jeep’s global president) stated to Motor Trend the new Cherokee will be larger and more powerful than the current model. He also stated to Motor Trend that the new Cherokee would not be made public this year, and will feature electrification.
The Jeep Cherokee’s current model was launched in 2014. It featured a controversial split-headlight design. This design disappeared with , the mid-cycle refresh of 2019. This design trend might have been a little ahead of Jeep. The crossover market has seen a lot of change since the Cherokee’s launch. There have been new competitors as well as electric vehicles. Major changes are coming to the Jeep Cherokee.
Jeep plans to electrify their lineup over the next few years. A new family SUV is expected to be available sometime in 2024. Jeep will also introduce a small EV crossover vehicle in 2023, although it looks like it will be smaller than the Jeep Compass. It is clear that a Jeep Cherokee is coming soon, and that automakers love making money. Therefore, designing a high-end Cherokee Wagoneer while consumers still want crossovers seems smart.
