It should be available before the end of this year.
We last saw the next-generation Land Rover Range Rover testing at Nurburgring. Although it was not being driven to its limits, the tire-screeching beast looked fast. The latest spy shots by Mogwai Media show the SUV moving at a slower pace, standing still.
Although the SUV is still covered in camouflage, the tight-fitting wrap shows some of its styling. The next-generation Range Rover appears very similar to the previous model. The hood is a clamshell-style design with a short overhang. Although the front fascia is slightly higher than it was before, this could be due to the camouflage that hides the grilles and headlights. It is difficult to see any styling details because the rear is still covered. We anticipate a new taillight design, and other improvements.
The exterior will be familiar but the interior will see a significant technological overhaul. Previous shy shots revealed a partially covered interior with a large digital instrument cluster as well as a large infotainment display. The steering wheel controls were both capacitive-touch and physical. The interior was covered or inaccessible, and a large portion of the center console was missing from the test vehicle.
Expect the entry-level model to have a straight-six engine and a mild hybrid system. A plug-in hybrid model will also be available. It will likely use the same turbocharged 2.0 liter engine that produced 398 horsepower (or 351 kilowatts) for the current model. The V8 will be back, but it is not clear if the 5.0-liter engine will transfer to the new model or whether Land Rover replaces the V8 with the twin-turbo BMW 4.4-liter V8. Although we don’t know the exact date Land Rover will unveil the new Range Rover this year, we anticipate a public debut.
