Next-Gen Lexus RC will be heavily influenced by GR GT3 Concept

The next RC will be developed by the Japanese luxury marque with motorsports in view.

The Toyota GR GT3 Concept will be the inspiration for the next Lexus RC. This was what we saw at this years Tokyo Auto Salon. According to Toyota Racing Development (TRD), president David Wilson said so in an interview with Driver. Wilson stated that it was safe to conclude that this could be an indicator of the next Lexus global GT3 car. We know that the current RC F GT3 racing car shares its body with a road car. Wilson also echoed the company’s current direction for the next-generation Lexus RC. Motor1 interviewed the TRD president and Lexus GM Andrew Gilleland. They both confirmed that the next RC, as well as RC F , will be designed with motorsports in view. This contrasts with the current Lexus RC, which is a race car version. Wilson admitted that the GT3 version was an afterthought. The next model will be different.

Wilson stated that the Lexus RC F was a dynamite sportscar, but he will be honest and admit it is not a GT3 vehicle. The current generation that we are racing is a GT3 version of the car. This is not how you bring a racecar to market. Engineers determine if a race car is going to be on the track before you even put the first line of code down. In the coming years, Lexus RC and RC F will be lighter. A lighter coupe means better performance. This is why the RC F Track Edition was created and the Fuji Speedway Edition were both made with carbon fiber to reduce weight, thus improving overall performance.
