This article is worth a listen Multiple photos have been taken of the next-generation Mercedes Benz G-Class testing . But, our spies were shocked when Mercedes unloaded a longer-wheelbase model from a truck. This is our first glimpse at the larger Gelandewagen.

This test mule is almost identical from the front to the previously spied G-Class examples. Only minor differences are the single-bar grille instead of the three-slat open grille on other examples. This vehicle does have a lot more space in the rear and no spare wheel. Mercedes’ camouflage makes it difficult to see any styling changes at its tail.

The Mercedes Mercedes’ back length is so long that the G-Class with a longer wheelbase would offer more space for the rear passengers as well as better cargo storage. The extra space could even allow for a third row of seating.

The new underpinnings for long-wheelbase G-Class models will presumably be used to transport a G-Class with a longer wheelbase. The latest chassis is said to be lighter than the previous model, weighing in at least 440 pounds (200 kg) . The overall width of the new model is approximately four inches (10 cm) wider than the current one.

Although we don’t yet know if Mercedes will offer an AMG version of its long-wheelbase G Class, it is likely that the automaker would share its biturbo-4.0-liter V8 and the regular-sized next-gen G63. The powerplant is capable of producing up to 603 horsepower (450kilowatts) depending on the application. It can be found in models such as the .

In the second half of 2017, the standard G-Class will be available. It is possible that the development of the long-wheelbase version might take longer than expected because this is the first time it will be seen. The larger version will not be available until 2018 or possibly even later.
