You’ll also get all-wheel drive.
Mercedes – AMG will reveal the next-generation on Thursday October 28. This will be followed by a full week’s worth of debuts. The new Land Rover and the Corvette Z06 will be on display. The company’s teaser for the SL, which showcases more of the convertible’s interior, coincides with its debut announcement.
Here’s our second look at its cabin. Mercedes displayed the car’s tilting infotainment screens which will help reduce the sun’s glare when it’s down. Although the teaser shows a larger view, there are no surprises. The dash is symmetrical with beautiful air vents peeking out. A screen is provided for the instrument cluster by the driver.
Although recent spy photos have given some clues, details about the car’s powertrain remain a mystery. A charger port cover has been seen on the car’s rear bumper. This is the same spot as that on the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance, which was unveiled last month. The plug-in hybrid will not pair a V8 with an electric motor. The brand’s turbocharged 2.0 liter will be used with some electric assistance. Rumours suggest that the combined output will be 578 horsepower (425 megawatts). A nine-speed automatic gearbox will be used to pair the hybrid powertrain with the engine.
Mercedes also confirmed today that the new SL will be available with all-wheel driving, likely via the hybrid powertrain setup. The model could also be powered by other engines, but it’s not certain.
The new SL will have a soft convertible roof, which should reduce its weight. However, the design is more innovative than the previous-generation model. Although the exterior styling may be identical, there are very few parts that the two cars share. Mercedes-AMG will host next Thursday’s digital world premiere at 16:00 CEST (11:00 EST).
